Family law disclosure software that runs the whole process

Matter Folio takes a property matter from the first document request to a page-numbered disclosure bundle. Your client and the other side upload against a list, your team reviews each document, and the balance sheet is built from what you accept.

A matter's documents in Matter Folio: each requested item with its status, from received to accepted

What is family law disclosure software?

It's software that manages the exchange of financial documents in a family law matter. Instead of emails and shared folders, each document is requested as an item with a status, uploaded against that item, reviewed by the firm, and recorded when it's served on the other side. Matter Folio does this for Australian property matters under the Family Law Act.

From first request to final bundle

Disclosure has the same steps on every matter. Matter Folio gives each one a place, so nothing depends on someone's inbox or a spreadsheet.

  • Request: tick the documents the matter needs, with a due date and the period statements should cover
  • Collect: your client uploads from their phone against each item, and reminders go out on their own
  • Review: see each document beside its details, accept it or ask for a new copy with a reason
  • The other side: their lawyer uploads to their own secure page, and you disclose your client's documents with a download register
  • Balance sheet: built from accepted figures, with each line linked to its document, and exported in the court's layout
  • Bundle: a page-numbered PDF with an Index to Disclosure, generated in seconds

Made for the duty of disclosure

Since June 2025 the duty of full and frank disclosure sits in the Family Law Act itself. Both parties must disclose, and lawyers must explain the duty to their clients. Matter Folio records what was asked for, what each party provided, what was reviewed and what was served, with dates. That makes the duty easier to meet, and easier to show you met it.

Both sides, kept apart

Your client sees only their own list. The other side's lawyer gets a free login and sees only what they upload and the documents you choose to disclose to them. You can withdraw a document disclosed by mistake, and the register keeps the history.

Your whole team, with the right access

Firm admins and lawyers see every matter. Paralegals, law clerks and admin staff see only the matters they're added to. Every view, upload, review and disclosure is recorded in the matter's activity trail.

Works alongside your practice management system

Matter Folio doesn't replace LEAP, Smokeball, Actionstep or anything else. It handles disclosure, and any matter can be exported in full (documents, index, balance sheet, bundle and activity) for your file.

Common questions

Is Matter Folio only for family law?

It's built around family law property matters, including the balance sheet in the court's layout and an optional parenting arrangements module. Document requests, review and bundles work for any kind of matter.

Does the other side's lawyer have to pay?

No. They get a free login for that matter. If they'd rather not use it, you can upload their documents yourself and review them the same way.

Where is the data stored?

In Australia. The application, database and documents are hosted in Sydney, and everyone signs in with a password and an authenticator code.

How long does it take to start?

A firm can be set up in an afternoon, and opening a matter takes a few minutes. Every firm starts with a 30-day free trial with every feature included.

Can we get our data out?

Yes. Any matter exports as a ZIP with every document in folders, the index, the balance sheet, the latest bundle and the activity trail.
